Choosing a Studio Where Your Mat Fits the Floor

Every studio is not the same even though they all have floors and walls. Each one wears the personality and philosophical approach of its owner or owners. Trust me as I have practiced yoga for a decade and the studios that have provided me with space for my mat have ranged from downright dusty and noisy to the most elegant and peaceful. The esthetics and the range of equipment will be reflected in the price of your space.

Studios will vary in their approach to yoga and the class schedule will give you a quick snapshot of the goals and the styles of yoga that are offered. Check out a few studios in your local area to see which one best fits your needs. Some studios place a greater emphasis on the spiritual side while others follow a more Western approach and offer a good workout with a spiritual note thrown in for good measure. Prices will vary depending on the training and experience of the teachers and the quality of the facility.

Many studios offer free classes for new students during an 8 or 12 week session. It is best for an inquiring student to visit during that time since there is no obligation to pay or stay. This way you can determine if you and your mat fit the studio and you enjoy being with a particular teacher that will provide you with the experience you are seeking.
